Investigation Underway in Possibly Illegal Shipment of Wild Horses to Slaughter « Straight from the Horse's Heart

SALT LAKE CITY — An investigation is underway to find out if 17 hundred wild horses were illegally shipped off to slaughter.
That number was confirmed for the first time today amidst demands for an immediate halt to roundups on public land.
Wild horse lovers accuse the BLM of driving them to extinction while turning a blind eye to their slaughter for horse meat. The BLM countered they’re stepping up roundups because the horses are facing disaster.

Equine Welfare Alliance and Wild Horse Freedom Federation have partnered in bringing a team of certified Investigators into our program so that we can jointly work together to shine the light of documented truth upon the bloody trade of kill buyers transporting American horses across our borders and the BLM’s continued cruel roundups and ultimate sale of our national icons to the very same kill buyers that haunt auctions, race tracks and unattended pastures of everyday horse owners.

Business as Usual for Slaughtering American Horses in Canada Begins Again « Straight from the Horse's Heart

The temporary shutdown of Canadian horse slaughter early Friday morning still has not produced any definitive reasons as to why American horses were turned away and their brokers, killbuyers, and drivers told to go home. The ban on horse slaughter however was short lived. On Monday, Canada’s horse slaughter plants announced they will be open for business again by Tuesday.

Let the Killing of America’s Horses Resume! « Straight from the Horse's Heart

Jerry Finch and I conversed on the fact that over the weekend reality seem to pale and fall out of focus every time we allowed our hearts and minds to slip over the edge into considering that the ban on bloody horse slaughter was permanent, that it would stick and lives would forever be changed for the better.  Jerry was up early on Monday morning and I was half a world away up late on Monday night awaiting some sort of word out of the EU explaining the ban and giving details to current conditions.

Twin Peaks Rush Creek Wild Fire Report: Where are All the Wild Horses and Burros? « Straight from the Horse's Heart

Twin Peaks Rush Creek Wild Fire Report: Where are All the Wild Horses and Burros? « Straight from the Horse's Heart

A wildfire started on Sunday, August 12th, 2012 from an apparent lightning strike and by the time it was contained on August 30th it had burned over 315,577 acres in California’s largest legally designated Wild Horse and Burro Herd Management Area, Twin Peaks.  Craig Downer, Wildlife Ecologist and “Grandma” Gregg, Environmental Researcher are experienced wild horse and burro observers and both familiar with the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area where the majority of the three days were spent searching for Wild Horses and Burros and documenting the extent of the fire damage.  Over 22 hours and 114 miles covered plus hikes into some remote off-road areas.  Travels included many stops to search with binoculars to look for any signs of wildlife – dead or alive.  Any live large and medium animals would be easier to locate in the burned areas due to lack of forage cover and any dead animals would be more difficult to find because of the grey-black color of the burned landscape. During our three long days of traveling through the Wild Horse and Burro Herd Management Area we only found 22 wild horses and 3 burros.

Dignity for Wild Horses?!?!? « Straight from the Horse's Heart

Sorry folks, while researching for an uplifting equine related story to share with all of you, today, I came across a post in the Denver Post that I thought was the ticket.  I was reading along, enjoying the poignant and accurate equine accolades and out of nowhere a freight train ran over me and left me crumpled, seathing and speechless on my office floor.  Nuff said, I will let you read on but the DP is getting to be a bit of a pain in the ass.
