December Full of Christmas Cheer for American Horses | Straight from the Horse's Heart

December Full of Christmas Cheer for American Horses | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Quietly, while most Americans made plans for holiday
festivities several major milestones occurred this month that will
enhance the safety and security of American equines during the upcoming
new year. The activities of salvation seemed to occur unnoticed but we
at SFTHH and WHFF want you to be well informed and perhaps even
celebrate a bit over what has occurred.

Opinion: Newbie NYT Reporter Suffers Chronic Attack of Hoof in Mouth Disease, AGAIN! | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Opinion: Newbie NYT Reporter Suffers Chronic Attack of Hoof in Mouth Disease, AGAIN! | Straight from the Horse's Heart

There’s an age old adage that says, “Even a fool is considered a wise
man, until he speaks” or in this situation, writes; and in the case of
freshman New York Times reporter David Phillips it couldn’t be more
crystal clear than just that!!

Pictorial: Day 12 Wild Horse Checkerboard Roundup ~ Lost Freedoms, Families and Futures | Straight from the Horse's Heart

“Today was a very tough day for me for a number of reasons. But no
matter how tough it was for me, I always keep in mind, it is a thousand
times tougher for these horses who lose everything dear to them, their
families, their homes and their freedom all at once.”

Day One Checkerboard Wild Horse Roundup | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Day One Checkerboard Wild Horse Roundup | Straight from the Horse's Heart

“It is just stunning and disheartening
that a special interest group with only 50 members, the Rock Springs
Grazing Association, has more influence on the BLM, the state of Wyoming
and the courts than the tens of thousands of American people who want
to see these horses remain free.”

Opinion: Wild Horses, Deception and the Despicable Feds | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Opinion: Wild Horses, Deception and the Despicable Feds | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Almost a half a decade ago myself, my wife Terry and a team of
competent, animal law attorneys huddled in conference calls and
discussed multiple ways and means in an effort to halt the BLM from
attempting to zero out the Adobe Town wild horse herd of Wyoming. Money
was spent, research was done, plaintiffs were identified and one wild
horse advocate and photographer was given hope that the herd which she
loved might be saved, and then the potential promise was yanked out from
under her, just as it was done this past week when history repeated
itself much to the chagrin and pain felt by photographer Carol Walker of Wild Horse Freedom Federation.

Wyoming Gov Says Wild Horses Are Stealing from School Children | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Wyoming Gov Says Wild Horses Are Stealing from School Children | Straight from the Horse's Heart

“If dumb could dumber it just occurred in the State of Wyoming
as Governor Mead crawled into bed with the state’s welfare ranchers by
pointing a finger (which one?) at the state’s few remaining wild horses for stealing the grass right out of private cattle’s mouths and money away from school children.  “DOINK”

The
few horses that survive on millions of acres are outnumbered hundreds
to one by cattle and sheep and the (allegedly) federally protected
horses are at fault?!?!  NOT!

Set
aside all of your sensibilities and read the official press release,
below, put out by the Gov’s office; it is  frighting on so many levels
that I am afraid to commit my thoughts to text.  I guess the word
incredulous comes to mind accompanied by a very loud and melodramatic
sigh.  Color me dumbfounded…but still, we keep the faith!” ~ R.T.

BLM ships 1,770 wild horses out of Teterville Long Term Holding Pasture in Kansas | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Over the course of several weeks, with no transparency (unless a member
of the public happened to call to directly ask), the BLM recently
shipped about 1,770 wild horses, who were supposedly “living out their
lives” on the Teterville Long Term Holding Pasture in Kansas, to other
long term holding pastures and to a TEMPORARY SHORT TERM HOLDING FACILITY, in feedlot like conditions.

Lawsuit Filed to Halt BLM’s Scheduled Wild Horse Roundup on the Wyoming Checkerboard | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Lawsuit Filed to Halt BLM’s Scheduled Wild Horse Roundup on the Wyoming Checkerboard | Straight from the Horse's Heart\

Carol Walker, plaintiff in the case and Wild Horse Freedom
Federation board member said,” BLM is primed and ready to annihilate
wild horse families in the Adobe Town HMA despite the fact that the vast
majority of these horses do not even live in the Checkerboard.”  The
noted photographer and author went on to say, “the horses would not have
a chance if this action goes forward.  They’ll be destined to a life of
incarceration and the American public will lose an iconic symbol of
freedom and independence.”

Multi-Millionaire Cowpoke Ladd Drummond & Pioneer Woman put on explosive fireworks show for wild horses AGAIN! | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Once again, multi-millionaire cowpoke Ladd Drummond and wife, Ree (the multi-millionaire “Pioneer Woman”), “treated”
the wild horses under his care in Long Term Holding on their pastures
(and likely a couple of other nearby Long Term Holding pastures) to
another loud fireworks show for the 4th of July.

Comment: BLM Bible Springs Wild Horse EA; Bogus | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Comment: BLM Bible Springs Wild Horse EA; Bogus | Straight from the Horse's Heart

True
to form, the BLM is attempting to hoodwink the American public and
justify their efforts to rip wild horses from their rightful land by
conveniently “forgetting” to mention in their Bible Springs Complex
Environmental Assessment that wild horses have ALREADY been removed.

9th Circuit Condones BLM’s Destruction of Wild Horse and Burro Herds | Straight from the Horse's Heart

9th Circuit Condones BLM’s Destruction of Wild Horse and Burro Herds | Straight from the Horse's Heart

“The BLM has definitely done a great smear campaign on our wild horses.”
stated Rachel Fazio, advocate attorney,  “To be honest reading this
opinion it is as if we never wrote any briefs or researched any law  -
and never mind the actual facts- it is as if we weren’t even involved in
the litigation at all.

Donkey Rescue in the Caribbean, a Mission of Love | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Donkey Rescue in the Caribbean, a Mission of Love | Straight from the Horse's Heart

It is, of
course, ‘Feel Good Sunday’ and what better way to celebrate the day but
to share with you some of the work of Wild Horse Freedom Federation’s
Director of Wild Burro Affairs, Marjorie Farabee on the distant
Caribbean island of Bonaire as she currently is struggling to save the
Bonaireans donkey (buriku) from total eradication on this small island
of only 70 square miles.

She has been there, along with
others, for several weeks struggling to get the message out to the local
government and to the Bonairean public.  We will be highlighting her
efforts with reports, pictures and documentation through out the
upcoming week.

But for today we share with you a
document that she has submitted which was conceived in her mind but
speaks from her heart on the truth, the origin and the importance of our
small, long eared equine companions, the donkey.

This Sunday we thank Marjorie for
her sacrifice as she fights to save these beloved creatures and we
pledge our support in her fight for the very lives and souls of these
magnificent creatures.  We love you Marjorie” ~ R.T.

Liam Neeson vs. Horses | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Liam Neeson vs. Horses | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Liam Neeson is an actor, and a good one. Recently, he’s been playing a new role: defender of New York’s anachronistic carriage-horse
industry. He’s attacked the part with all the gusto of recent star
turns in movies like Non-Stop and Taken. But just like those roles, it’s
a fictional portrayal that’s short on facts and heavy on action-hero
posturing and show biz theatrics.

Internal BLM Memo Recommends Killing Sick Wild Horses On Range | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Internal BLM Memo Recommends Killing Sick Wild Horses On Range | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Coffey says, “Suddenly they’re going to kill off the wild horses because
there’s a man-made drought caused by the BLM’s own mismanagement of our
public lands. They need to rethink how they’re managing public land if
they can’t sustain wild horses they have a mandate to protect.”

BLM and Forest Service Shock America with Grazing Fee Announcement | Straight from the Horse's Heart

The official word is out (drum roll please); the Federal grazing fee for
2014 will be $1.35 per animal unit month (AUM) for public lands
administered by the Bureau of Land Management and $1.35 per head month
(HM) for lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The 2014 fee is
(DOINK) the same as last year’s and has not changed for decades.  Welfare ranching continues to be endorsed by the federal government.

Missouri DNR Denies Horse Slaughter Permit | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Missouri DNR Denies Horse Slaughter Permit | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Clearly noting federal budget restrictions, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources HAS turned down the permit request from Rains to butcher American horses for consumption by elite foreign interests.

The DNR said in a letter Thursday
to David Rains, owner of Rains Natural Meats in Gallatin, that the
agency has denied Rains’ permit request for his proposed horse slaughter operation because the new federal budget withheld funding for required federal inspections of equine slaughter facilities.

An Equine Thanksgiving in January | Straight from the Horse's Heart

An Equine Thanksgiving in January | Straight from the Horse's Heart

During the course of the week we constantly comb the internet for not only the very latest equine related news but also for something good, uplifting and encouraging to be able to share with you on our “Feel Good Sundays”.

I, for one, believe that we need at least one day of rest, one day to step back and a brief moment of peace away from the clatter and noise of the fight.  We need that day to recharge, regroup and reaffirm and there is no better day than Sunday to do that.

So today, I really did not have to look too far for good news, it pretty much fell into our laps and we can freely feel good, this day…and it’s pretty simple;

American horses will not be cruelty slaughtered for human consumption on American soil this year…done deal, full stop.  Rejoice.

Omnibus Budget Will End Chances of Horse Slaughter Plants Opening in US | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Omnibus Budget Will End Chances of Horse Slaughter Plants Opening in US | Straight from the Horse's Heart

CHICAGO, (EWA) – The omnibus bill pending before Congress this week contains language that will end the possibility of proposed horse slaughter plants opening in New Mexico and Missouri. The last three plants were closed in 2007 under state laws, and Congress had defunded required inspections which made it impossible for them to open in other states until 2011.

Missouri Turns Away From Horse Slaughter | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Missouri Turns Away From Horse Slaughter | Straight from the Horse's Heart

CHICAGO, (EWA) – Missouri, one of four states where horse slaughter plants were planned, is no longer on that list. On January 4, 2014, the Rains Natural Meats Company quietly filed a motion to dismiss their appeal with the Missouri Environmental Department, which had issued the Company a discharge permit that excluded equines. The move leaves only Valley Meats in New Mexico still fighting to open a plant.
