This is the case with the mantra of illogical statements we hear from horse slaughter supporters. The statements, spoken with such authority, in fact either lack common sense or amount to nothing more than finding a piece of jello they can nail to the wall.

Las Vegas, NV (December 23, 2010)—The Cloud Foundation voices its concerns today over the significant BLM participation in the early January “Summit of the Horse”, better known as the “Slaughter Summit”. BLM Director, Bob Abbey, will be a keynote speaker at the conference, which purportedly ties wild horse management to the “solution” of horse slaughter. American wild horses must be protected from groups trying to profit from their slaughter. Director Abbey’s taxpayer-funded trip to Las Vegas to participate in a conference supporting horse slaughter is concerning.

It was like any other evening feeding of the horses, yet it was not; or not quite, as something was different. There was an electric buzz in the air; the feeling of white noise just outside the audible range of the human ear. There was something tangible and moving in the barn that night.

With a pedal to the metal the promoter of a convention of slaughter proponents disregarded the scientific fact that U.S. horses are no longer accepted as meat for human consumption in Europe yet Wallis thinks it would be just fine to feed the tainted meat to her constituents in the state of Wyoming, as it is illegal to transport the meat across state lines.

The out-of-control direction the BLM is taking the Wild Horse & Burro Program spells the imminent extinction of America’s wild and free-roaming iconic herds in the West.

The Senate will vote sometime this week or next on whether to approve the House appropriations bill to increase funding for the DOI/BLM Wild Horse & Burro Program. If Congress wants to reduce spending, it can be done here and now. The requested additional $12M can be eliminated immediately and the $18M costs for FY11 roundups and processing can be redirected to actual reform of this acknowledged broken Program.

Due to the early cold snap, that has held most of the nation in it’s grip, now is perhaps a good time to take a moment and consider the affects of cold weather on our pasture dolphins. This topic is a very sensitive issue with me as we lost a very dear equine friend over a tremendous dip in temperature that, perhaps, if I were more in tune with the local weather conditions he might have still been with us today. So to me, this is very serious stuff. Her proposal for the bureau to designate a “mustang monument” on those acres isn’t sitting well in Nevada cattle country, where ranchers worry Mrs. Pickens’s plan threatens to force them off the range. Nevada’s estimated 450,000 cattle graze mostly on federally owned lands in a practice dating from the 19th century.
