Breaking News: Children Find Foal Carcass at BLM Wild Horse Holding Facility | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Wild Horse Freedom Federation has learned that children from Youth’s Equine Alliance found at least one dead foal thrown into at trash dumpster at the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Delta, Utah’s short term Wild Horse and Burro’s Holding Facility.

BLM has a long-term record of multiple, public complaints of inhumane treatment and abuse of wild horses and burros that ranges from their alleged violent and dangerous means of stampeding wild equines for capture to inhumane handling and poor care after their questionable roundups.  Details at this point are sketchy; WHFF will update as additional information becomes available.

Equine Whispers in the Night | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Equine Whispers in the Night | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Feel Good Sunday” takes on a special flavor for me, today, because I am home with family and friends after yet another month of globetrotting half way across the world in an effort to provide for those who I leave behind when I travel.  And as luck would have it I will be able to share Thanksgiving at our southeast Texas ranch with our equine family as well; for this I am doubly thankful as my spirit needs to be recharged in the manner that only close contact with our equine children can accomplish.

So in preparation to set my mind right and to seek out an appropriate story to share I spent some quality, private time in the barn with the boys, this morning, so that my head would be re-calibrated; and as I listened to the soft munching of hay and gentle nickers swirling around  me it became clear that I should share a story I had written several years ago, of just such a moment, a point in time that is easy to re-create and to draw upon when living with horses.  With that realization I will set my jet lagged mind free and share with you a story of a like experience pulled from the pages of our book, Straight from the Horses Heart, and go back out to enjoy the company of the characters of said book minus/plus one.  Enjoy and keep the faith, may the Force of the Horse® be with you.” ~ R.T.

The Riderless Horse: A JFK Icon | Straight from the Horse's Heart

“50 years ago today, President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed; a moment frozen in time for many us.  To personally explain in more detail would easily date me but a recent CNN video report takes away a moment that stayed with me, too.  In honor of JFK, we respectfully share it with you and likewise, offer up a moment of silence for the premature passing of a President.  In God we Trust.  Keep the Faith.” ~ R.T.

After all the publicized concern about the presence of phenylbutazone (Bute) in horsemeat, researchers now fear the meat could also carry the organism that causes toxoplasmosis—a potentially deadly human disease. Recent study results suggest that up to 15% of horses in Brazilian slaughterhouses and 30.5% of those in southwest China could be infected with Toxoplasma gondii.

A Grim Future Awaits the Nation’s Wild Horses | Straight from the Horse's Heart

A Grim Future Awaits the Nation’s Wild Horses | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Last week, a federal judge in New Mexico cleared the way for domestic slaughterhouse operators to again kill and render horses on American soil. Monday night, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver stayed that ruling, at least temporarily, so that it could evaluate whether the Obama Administration unlawfully permitted those operators to resume the brutal practice without first complying with all relevant environmental regulations.

Breaking News: Court of Appeals Issues Stay to Stop Horse Slaughter in U.S. | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Breaking News: Court of Appeals Issues Stay to Stop Horse Slaughter in U.S. | Straight from the Horse's Heart

We are happy to announce that the Court of Appeal has granted our motion for a temporary injunction, for a short time, staying the district court’s ruling last week. For now, no horses can be slaughtered in America, and the chance of environmental contamination from horse slaughter is again in the hands of the courts. But we will be fighting further this week, and should know more by week’s end.

Exclusive Report: Where Have All the Wild Horses and Burros Gone? | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Exclusive Report: Where Have All the Wild Horses and Burros Gone? | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Although a very few wild horses and burros were seen, the best way to describe our three days on the Herd Management Areas (HMAs) is “mile after mile and hour after hour seeing no wild horses or burros”.
