Missouri DNR Denies Horse Slaughter Permit | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Missouri DNR Denies Horse Slaughter Permit | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Clearly noting federal budget restrictions, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources HAS turned down the permit request from Rains to butcher American horses for consumption by elite foreign interests.

The DNR said in a letter Thursday
to David Rains, owner of Rains Natural Meats in Gallatin, that the
agency has denied Rains’ permit request for his proposed horse slaughter operation because the new federal budget withheld funding for required federal inspections of equine slaughter facilities.

An Equine Thanksgiving in January | Straight from the Horse's Heart

An Equine Thanksgiving in January | Straight from the Horse's Heart

During the course of the week we constantly comb the internet for not only the very latest equine related news but also for something good, uplifting and encouraging to be able to share with you on our “Feel Good Sundays”.

I, for one, believe that we need at least one day of rest, one day to step back and a brief moment of peace away from the clatter and noise of the fight.  We need that day to recharge, regroup and reaffirm and there is no better day than Sunday to do that.

So today, I really did not have to look too far for good news, it pretty much fell into our laps and we can freely feel good, this day…and it’s pretty simple;

American horses will not be cruelty slaughtered for human consumption on American soil this year…done deal, full stop.  Rejoice.

Omnibus Budget Will End Chances of Horse Slaughter Plants Opening in US | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Omnibus Budget Will End Chances of Horse Slaughter Plants Opening in US | Straight from the Horse's Heart

CHICAGO, (EWA) – The omnibus bill pending before Congress this week contains language that will end the possibility of proposed horse slaughter plants opening in New Mexico and Missouri. The last three plants were closed in 2007 under state laws, and Congress had defunded required inspections which made it impossible for them to open in other states until 2011.

Missouri Turns Away From Horse Slaughter | Straight from the Horse's Heart

Missouri Turns Away From Horse Slaughter | Straight from the Horse's Heart

CHICAGO, (EWA) – Missouri, one of four states where horse slaughter plants were planned, is no longer on that list. On January 4, 2014, the Rains Natural Meats Company quietly filed a motion to dismiss their appeal with the Missouri Environmental Department, which had issued the Company a discharge permit that excluded equines. The move leaves only Valley Meats in New Mexico still fighting to open a plant.
